The UNIQUE System for Empowering Youth Through Entrepreneurship

I talked about creating a UNIQUE environment in which children can succeed through the engagement of entrepreneurship.

U stands for understanding the child. How do they learn? What are their passions and talents? How do they receive affirmation and love?

N stands for negotiate. In order for youth to succeed in business there are things that will have to be negotiated – roles, time, finances, as well as other things.

I stands for implement. Ideas are fabulous as is passion and motivation, but nothing happens until things are implemented. Systems, strategy, ideas and boundaries all have to be implemented for kids to succeed in life as well as in business.

Q stands for qualify. As your child becomes successful, there will be more and more demands on their time and energy. Qualifying opportunities as well as all aspects of the business will be key to their success. Asking the question, “Is this opportunity or task worth the investment of time, energy, and emotion?” Sometimes the answer will be yes and sometimes it will be no. Looking at results of action and asking the question, “Did we make the goal?” will be important. Looking into the future and asking qualifying questions about how to get the goals in mind, will also be very important.

U stands for unwaveringly commit. No matter what it takes, your son or daughter needs to know that you are committed to them – not the business idea, not the perfect score, but to THEM! It might mean financial commitment or a commitment of connections or time. It might mean overcoming obstacles of age or disability. The outcome of your child knowing you are 100% committed to them is priceless!

E stands for encourage. There will be bumps along the entrepreneurship journey. There will be comfort zones that your child (and possibly you) will have to face and breakthrough. Every step of the way, be prepared to be their number one fan! Knowing that they have someone cheering for them will make a difference for them today as well as in years to come!

I hope you will take a moment to let me know what you think of the UNIQUE system as well as share it with others on Facebook and Twitter. Enjoy the rest of my notes and if you like what you see here, consider picking up a copy of our book, The Parents’ Guide to Raising CEO Kids.
